Weekend Book Friends #21

Friday, July 30, 2021

Greetings Humans! No, we didn't disappear from the face of the earth this week, it was just one of those weeks where reality interfered with our reading and blogging life. Luckily it is Friday afternoon and we can finally escape into a book or two. I believe a complete escape from reality and a bit of tongue in the cheek humor, is exactly what we need for this weekend:

Tired of being teased about his name and his stutter, twelve-year-old Hobart sets out to do a few heroic deeds and earn a place in Knight School. But the local damsels he hopes to save assure him that the last thing they need is rescuing. The runaway bull he tries to catch wears him like a hat. And don't even ask about the ogre.

Finally, in desperation, Hobart sets out on the most daring quest he can think of--he will slay a dragon. Or that's his plan anyway.

The Legend of Hobart is a hilarious, heart-felt adventure, for the would-be hero in all of us.

This book sounds like the most fun a cat and a middle school child can have. It's up for review from our side, so you can check in again early next week to see our thoughts on it. I'm sure it's going to be good!

Let's pay a visit to a couple of our beloved Weekend Book Friends and share our weekend reads. We will also pay a visit to our new friends for Friendly Fill-Ins. We love making new friends!

Book Beginnings

For our first stop today, we will pay a visit to Gilion over at Rose City Reader to share our Book Beginnings.  Every Friday you can link up and share the first sentence of your current read (or the one you plan to devour over the weekend), as well as your initial thoughts and impressions. Hashtags are the one thing I do know on social media, so simply #bookbeginnings so we can find each other.

We are reading this one on our Kindle and I love the Chapter headings:

Chapter 1
In which I set out on a quest

In case you're wondering, becoming a hero is not as easy as you might think. I tried rescuing a damsel in distress. But all of our local damsels practice martial arts and assured me that the last thing they needed was rescuing.

I wasn't really wondering about becoming a hero, no. For some creatures it just comes naturally. Like cats of course. I do like the damsels doing martial arts though.

The Friday 56

Next we will pay a visit to Freda over at Freda's voice who hosts the Friday 56. Don't show up empty handed though!
  • Grab a book (Yes, any book. But it might get you to your other Friday activities a bit quicker if you just grab the book you are currently reading)
  • Turn to page 56 or 56% on your e-reader
  • Find a sentence or two (your other Friday activities might determine this)
  • Post it!
  • Remember to post your link on Freda's Voice and to visit the other guys in the linky.
  • And  last but not least, don't forget to list the title of the book and the author as well.

Let's see what happens on 56%:

Chapter 7
In which Albert walks on water

When we woke up the next morning, the sky was dark, heavy gray. I kept glancing up, waiting for the first drops to fall and Albert's complaining to start.

Albert sounds like someone or something that will only annoy me.

Book Blogger Hop

The Book Blogger's hop's purpose is to give bloggers a chance to follow other blogs, learn about new books, befriend other bloggers, and receive new followers to your own blog. Every week, there will be a prompt featuring a book related question. It's hosted by Ramblings of a coffee addicted writer and I guess he hops around like a bunny due to all the caffeine. Hence his name.

Today's question:  Do you have an online calendar to keep track of your reviews and posts, or do you print out a calendar or list? (submitted by Elizabeth @ Silver's Reviews)

My Mommy hardly manages to be on time most of the time, if we need to upload her diary online as well, we'll never get anything done. She mainly uses her good old yearly calendar diary to keep track of reviews and posts. That is if she can get my fluffy, white bum of it of course.

Friendly Fill-Ins

We are having so much fun with the Friendly Fill-Ins. It's a lovely way to link up with fellow blogger and a few feline friends. Friendly Fill-Ins is hosted by 15 and Meowing and Four-Legged Furballs. They come up with a couple of sentences, and then you have to fill in the blanks. This week's questions:

1. Only someone with a ____________ would understand _________________.
2. I just started ___________________________.
3. I find it hard to believe that _________.
4. I should probably _________.

It's my turn to answer the questions today!

1. Only someone with a fluffy white fur coat would understand the difficulty in keeping it clean ALL.THE.TIME. Full time job. I kid you not.
2. I just started bathing. It takes at least 25 minutes. Had a lovely day playing outside today though.
3. I find it hard to believe that there are still people out there who think black cats are evil. They should really meet my big brother, Stinkie. He's as black as night and as pure of heart as snow. I'm as white as snow and ... Let's leave it there.
4.I should probably remove my fluffy white bum from my Mommy's diary so she can finish her work.

What is your plans for the weekend?  And what is your current read?

Hope you will all have a wonderful weekend and that you have a nice book and a lovely cat to curl up with.

Lots of Love,

  1. Love your fill-ins and black cats are the best. My last kitty was black and we were attached at the hip.

Have a fabulous day and weekend. Enjoy your fun read. ♥

    1. Thanks Sandee! I tried very hard to get Stinkie to attach to my hip, by nope. He is a loner and just does his own thing. At least I'm allowed to pick him up and I am the only one with that privilege.

      Happy weekend!

  2. The Legend of Hobart sounds like a hoot! I love a good Fantasy book that doesn't take its genre too seriously and those chapter headings are great! I am also absolutely horrible at keeping myself on a good reading/review schedule but I do try. I find it impossible to stick to self-imposed rules... surely if I set them I can break them? I'll have to figure out a solution to that! I hope you both have a lovely weekend :)

  3. Thank you for participating in the fill-ins, great answers. I love every color of cat. Be careful outside in the sun. White cats get skin cancer easier than most. XO

Oh we know the sun is very dangerous for fluffy white kittens, especially the harsh African sun. Elza is rather sun-wise, but if she gives me half a chance, I put sunblock on her ears and nose.

    1. It really does help to get around to so many bloggers by combining a few weekly memes. It's fun too, so it's a win win situation all around.

  14. Calendars and planners is all I've been seeing lately. I noticed a guy at Walgreens marking up his dotted diary and had a little chat about that. Got to love a guy who journals.

  15. The Legend of Hobart sounds like a book I would have absolutely loved as a child, but I'm sure I'll still love it as an adult, so I'll give it a read. And thank you for joining in on the Friendly Fill-Ins with your purrfect answers!

We love hearing from you and if you talk to me, I'll purr back as soon as possible. Sometimes I take a cat nap and it might take a couple of hours or days, but never fear - the cat always comes back.
