Ten Books I've read in one sitting (or lying)

Tuesday, July 20, 2021

Greetings you guys! It's Tuesday and time for Top Ten Tuesday, hosted by Jana @ That Artsy Reader Girl. Yes, it is raining cats and dogs out there. Guess it's because we actually manage to do a Top Ten Tuesday post twice in a row! Perfect weather to grab a book and just read until the book is done. From start to end. Yes, yes - I know you have to read all books from start to end, but today we are talking about those one sitting (or lying) reads that you just couldn't put down.

My Mommy is really good with one sitting (or lying) reads. Her week days are normally cramped with school and stuff, so on weekends she will just read as much as possible. As you know by now, we don't like wrecking our little brains to come up with titles for TTT, we just pick the first 10 that pops in her head.

1. Miss Benson's Beetle by Rachel Joyce - A rainy day. A holiday. A perfect book.
2. Before I Say Goodbye by Mary Higgins Clark - The world woke up on the 31st of January 2020 with the news that the Queen Suspense has died. This was the perfect book to say goodbye on that sad day.
3. Later by Stephen King - We'll read most of his books in one sitting (or lying) if they weren't such doorstops.

7. The Twilight Saga by Stephenie Meyer - I have absolutely nothing to do with that. That was way before my time. Long weekend away to Mozambique. 5 days. Three books. I don't think my Mommy would have read it in different circumstances.

8. Where'd you Go, Bernadette? by Maria Semple - a flowerpot that needed a new mosaic design and tiles. An Audible credit. Perfect day.
9. The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides - A rainy and cold Sunday. Daddy slept all day. Mommy read all day.
10. The Murder of Roger Ackroyd by Agatha Christie - Our very first Agatha Christie. And no, it wasn't the only Agatha Christie that was a one sitting (or lying) read.

What books did you finish in one sitting?

Lots of Love,

  1. "The Guest List" is on my tbr list, and I've read both "The Silent Patient" and "Where'd you Go, Bernadette?"
Don't you adore Goodreads? A friend who works at the library clued me into it a few years ago, and it's such a good resource! Anytime someone tells me about a book, or I find one while walking through the stacks at the library, I keep adding to my lists.
And, sometimes, I remove stuff too, wondering why did I want to read that?!?

    1. The Guest List is really good! I couldn't put it down. I think Goodreads are more important to me than my diary! LOL!!! I try to normally keep my TBR under 500 books, but I don't always get that right. But yes, I also sometimes look at some of the books that made it on my TBR list and I wonder what on earth was I thinking!

    1. I think by now you know how much I loved Miss Benson's Beetle. I can never stop talking about it. I think we need a TTT post with all the books we've used the most in blog posts. And authors.

  3. Great list! I've read some Agatha Christie in a short time before, but I don't think I've ever quite managed to read one in a single sitting.

    1. Hi Lindsey! I don't think I would have ever finished the Twilight Saga if I allowed myself to come up for air. LOL!!!

The whole Bridgerton series are quick reads and loads of fun for sure.

    1. You tell me... The best part of all was that my husband was just as engrossed while I was reading it. He constantly wanted to know what was happening!

  10. Great list of books! Agatha Christie books easily lend themselves to be read in one sitting.

    1. Hi Pam! Her books are normally quick reads and you can easily finish them in one sitting. I prefer to read them on my Kindle as the "older" font does seem to hinder my reading speed a bit though.

  13. So many great ones here! The Guest List is on my tbr, I loved Rebecca, I recently enjoyed The Duke and I, and I also adored Where'd You Go, Bernadette. There's nothing like getting swept up in a great book and spending the day reading. <3

  14. I love your descriptions that go with each book. You have listed a number of books that I also remember reading quickly. I do love that feeling of just being so totally absorbed in a book that a whole day goes by.

  15. I haven't read anything by Mary Higgins Clark in ages! I loved the Twilight series! I have not read Bridgerton although it seems to be pretty popular. Is it a clean read? I think I need to look into it. Thanks for sharing!

  17. It's been awhile since I've read really anything in one sitting but I have definitely read a Bridgerton book and an Agatha Christie in one sitting at some point. Fun list! I really want to read that Lucy Foley (or really anything by her at this point!)

We love hearing from you and if you talk to me, I'll purr back as soon as possible. Sometimes I take a cat nap and it might take a couple of hours or days, but never fear - the cat always comes back.
