The Sunday Post #39

Sunday, May 16, 2021

Greetings Humans! How was your week? We very almost didn't do a Sunday Post, because we don't really have that much to say. But  then my Mommy sorted out her Book Club books this morning and we realized we actually have quite the shelf to stack! The rest of our week was uneventful. School is pretty much the way you expect it to be - naughty children, stubborn colleagues, rain cancelling the sport schedule, sick kids. Same old story.

Let's rather talk books.

Adding to the Litter

Before I show you all our lovely new addition for Book Club, let me just quickly give you a recap on how our Book Club works: Every month, all the members pay an amount that goes to the host for that month. The host then buys books of her choice for the amount received. You are allowed to buy whatever you want, the books will be yours in the end after all. Most of the ladies get to buy around 3 - 5 books per month (books are really expensive in SA). But if you know my Mommy, you will know that buying books is hobby all in itself for her. She will be the host beginning of June and she has the impressive number of 15 books that she will be adding to this year's haul. I have noticed that we get a few less kibbles in our bowls since Friday, but I think it's safer to just don't say anything and go catch a mouse.

We've separated the English and the Afrikaans books for you, so that you don't get too confused trying to read the titles. The best part of all, there are still a few other new books still left on the shelf, but this might be enough. They have to carry the crates at the end of each meeting. Let's show some mercy. Now don't you wish you could join or Book Club?

Scratching the Blog Pole

Not much, I've scratched the couch in the sitting room more than what my Mommy scratched the Blog Pole.

We did our Wondrous Words Wednesday post - Gumption and only our Weekend Book Friends post on Friday.

On the Couch

I've been trying to tell you guys for months now that my Mommy is slightly crazy. Last weekend, she started with A Dark and Secret Place. At 27%, she put it down and send a very polite email to Netgalley saying that the content is too disturbing and violent for her delicate demeanor (or something to that effect). But then she devours the new Stephen King book, Later, in one sitting. Nope, I can't explain it either.

Did any of you watch this series when it was first released in 2015? How did we miss this?
The Man in the High Castle is an American dystopian alternate history television series created for streaming service Prime Video, depicting a parallel universe where the Axis powers of Nazi Germany and the Empire of Japan rule the world after their victory in World War II
It's good! And I can't help but think - what if?

That's it from us this week. The highlight of our week was all our new books for sure. And new ballet shoes. What happened in your life this past week?

Remember to link up with our lovely hosts Debbie @ ReaderBuzz and Kimberley @ Caffeinated Reviewer. I've been struggling to access Stacking the Shelves @ Tynga's Reviews since last week, if one of you would be so kind as to redirect me, please?

Wishing you all a wonderful week ahead!

Lots of Love,

  1. What an interesting book club you have, Mareli! And look at all of those great books. I can personally vouch for Gentleman in Moscow and The Midnight Library. I am glad, Elza, that you are willing to sacrifice your kibbles for the happiness of your Mommy. Good job!

We have not seen Man in the High Castle, but my brother-in-law speaks highly of it. We have had such brilliant weather in the last week that we didn't get in any tv at all.

I like how you have combined all the lovely Friday-ish book memes together into a Weekend Book Friends post. I'd love to join in for Book Beginnings and the hop now and then. Maybe I can figure out a way to do it sometimes.

It works well!! I just buy books the whole year through. 😜

  2. Elza, your mom sure knows how to pick good books - her club sounds awesome. I loved Gentleman in Moscow, American Dirt and thought Later was great too (and not too scary) either. I also read Midnight Library which was nice and different too. I hope you and mom have a lovely week.

    1. Aaah thank you Diane! I love browsing through the bookstore, but if you watch carefully, you'll see most of the books are the once that travel well here on the blogosphere. Yea for book blogs!!

    1. Hi Trin! I love being back at ballet, but good grief I'm useless!!! No jokes here. We have a dance festival coming up and I only get a step here and there... It's laughable. But I love it and enjoy it tremendously. I bought a pair of Grishko stretch canvas shoes. So comfy!

I love our Book Club and it really works well. We read so diverse and some ladies read one book a month and others 5 - 7 (like me...) And new books EVERY month. It really is the best club ever.

  17. I am madly jealous about the Kingfisher Sophie Hannah book! That one is high on my Must Buy List but somehow I haven't bought it yet. I need to fix that because I really love them even if they're not quite Poirot. The rest of the books look amazing and I know I want the Kate Quinn at the very least. I hope you and Elza have a great week!

My husband watched and really like The Man in the High Castle. He used it to watch it on his Friday off work while I was at my job.

We love hearing from you and if you talk to me, I'll purr back as soon as possible. Sometimes I take a cat nap and it might take a couple of hours or days, but never fear - the cat always comes back.
