Cover Reveal - The Collector's Daughter by Gill Paul

Wednesday, March 17, 2021

Greetings you all! Even though it is just about end of term for my Mommy and she can hardly drag herself out of bed in the mornings, she did one very happy dance last night.

I am sure you all know who the acclaimed author Gill Paul is? We first came across her superb writing style when my Mommy read Women and Children First in April last year. (April is Titanic remembrance month in my Mommy's eyes. If you feel the same, read that one).

Anyways, Gill Paul has a new book that will be published in September this year and today is the cover reveal! My Mommy couldn't believe her eyes when she opened her email yesterday and saw that we were chosen to take part in the cover reveal. I, of course, had no doubt. It's very hard to resists me, you know. But I have to admit, I am equally as excited as my Mommy. This book looks brilliant and what a gorgeous cover.

Blurb:

Bestselling author Gill Paul returns with a brilliant novel about Lady Evelyn Herbert, who grew up in Highclere Castle—the real Downton Abbey—and became the first person in modern times to enter the tomb of Ancient Egyptian king Tutankhamun.

She is the daughter of the Earl of Carnarvon, brought up to make her society debut and follow it with a prestigious marriage. But popular and pretty Lady Evelyn Herbert has other ideas. First she falls for a man her mother doesn’t approve of, then she accompanies her father to Egypt, leaving behind the world of etiquette and chaperones to work alongside archeologist Howard Carter in the Valley of the Kings.

In November 1922 the extraordinary happens when they discover the burial place of Tutankhamun, packed full of gold and inconceivable riches. Eve is the first to crawl inside, the first person to see the treasures in three thousand years. She calls it the “greatest moment” of her life—but soon afterwards a string of tragedies leaves her world a darker, sadder place.

Newspapers claim it is “the curse of Tutankhamun.” Howard Carter says no rational person would entertain such nonsense. Fifty years later, an Egyptian academic comes asking questions about what really happened in the tomb in 1922. And that visit unleashes a new chain of events threatening Eve’s happy life, and making her wonder if there could be some truth behind the stories of an ancient curse.

  2. I heard about that woman recently... Oh yes, in Escape to the country ! They were in the area and I saw a short interview. Sorry, I type fast and write as I think. And I haven't had my coffee yet. Anyway, if you say the author is good, and the era and atmosphere remind me of Agatha Christie, I'm willing to read this one :)

  6. Hi Mareli & Elza,

I do try not to judge a book by its cover, however both this and several other of the authors' books, have amazing covers.

This is a new to me author, but having checked her out, she isn't going to be a stranger for too much longer, as some of her storylines sound excellent.

You sound really excited about getting to read this one, so I hope that you enjoy it when you finally get your hands on a copy :)

We love hearing from you and if you talk to me, I'll purr back as soon as possible. Sometimes I take a cat nap and it might take a couple of hours or days, but never fear - the cat always comes back.
