The Sunday Post #27

Sunday, January 24, 2021

Greetings you all. First of all, a big big big big big big thank you to all of you for recommending watching Bridgerton on Netflix. It truly is the cure to many, many ailments. 2021 just got a bit better.

We are honestly not even going to complain about anything that happened this week and we actually can do quite a bit of that. But I'm quite sure The Dashing Duke of Hastings will just lift a condescending eyebrow and tell us to get over it in no uncertain terms.

Lady Whistledown's scandalous society papers is exactly what we need to forget all about the world outside of Regency England. It's never been my Mommy's preferred reading destination or era, unless it's Jane Austen or Georgette Heyer. Julia Quinn and Shonda Rhimes did a marvelous job of blending Regency England with modern day gossip and thrill seekers.

But wait, I think she is planning to do a post about this book-to-screen adaptation, so I better stop. Let's talk books.

Stacking the Shelves

You are not going to believe this, but guess what my Mommy bought on Thursday:

I know, I also didn't see that one coming. And she's done with the first one. My Mommy was wrecking her brain to try to remember who first told her about these books. It was actually recommended to her before the hit Netflix series. It was recommended by Katherine @ I wish I Lived in a Library and as always, she was right! My Mommy loves it. Strange that she does, because this is really not her type of books at all. (We had to google what a Rake is)

Scratching the Blog Pole

We really had a week to complain about, but seeing that we definitely don't want The Duke of Hastings to raise an eyebrow, we keep quiet. But from the amount of posts, you can easily figure out that it was a rough one.

Our Wondrous Words Wednesday was clowder. Thanks so much to everyone that participated in this meme. We'll see you on the 3rd of February again.

Our only other post was Weekend Book Friends where we featured hmmmm... you'll never guess.

On the Couch

Recently Finished

Sometimes when I take a look at the diversity of the books my Mommy read and that in the same time-frame, I wonder if she might be certifiable. Both of these where one-sitting reads and excellent.

Currently Reading

I rest my case after the last statement.

Currently Watching

I'm not going to say anything. I'm just going to curl up next to my Mommy and enjoy the show.

Dare I ask if you've watched Bridgerton? Or read the books?

What other scandalous gossip can you share with us this week?

May you all have a wonderful week ahead. Do take care of yourself and rather just stay at home and watch Bridgerton.

Lots of Love,

  1. LOL, 2021's first face is a *lot* better, no contest ! And rake, lol again ! I watched Bridgerton, didn't like the colours of the costumes and the music, but it's strange, each time the duke appeared, I forgot about it all. I read the first two books in the series and need the rest. To be honest, in the show, I prefer Eloise and am hoping she'll get her story. I'd love to read the Minette Walters, I've read a lot of her thrillers, but not the historical novels (yet). Well, have a great week and enjoy the shows ;)

    1. If the Duke of Hastings is the face of 2021,can this year really be that bad? I think not. I actually really liked the costumes and the music doesn't bother me. I've just started with the second book and it is such fun reads. Will see how far I get with the series. But the TV adaptation is so far excellent.

The Last Hours is about the Black Death and it might not actually be the best time to read it. Think it might take me some time to complete. My first Minette Walters and I like her writing style.

      Have a good week.

    1. It's a rather fun escape from reality and the Duke is really soft on the eye, that helps as well.

      Have a good week Sherry!

  3. My husband and I have gotten completely wrapped up in the lives of the vets in the All Creatures Great and Small series. We only meant to watch the first season; we had no idea there were 90 episodes made back in the 70's and 80's and 90's! We do want to take a look at Bridgerton, but we are completely wrapped up in this series right now.

I need to start thinking about my next Wondrous Words post. It should be pretty easy. I am reading a whole book about ways that other cultures define happiness. I think I'll take my next post from there. I wish I was better at spreading the word about things. It's so much fun to draw a clouter...that is, a crowd.

    1. Hi Debs! I've asked my husband to see if he can find All Creatures Great and Small for us. I've read the book years ago and should re-read it. We also tend to watch one series until it's done and then move to the next one. My husband doesn't want to watch Bridgerton with me. I don't mind, I love watching by myself as well.

I've started to make a list of a few options to use for WWW, having so much fun with it. My one teacher actually started to use the words that I choose in her class to introduce the students to some lesser known words. Love that!

I appreciate your participation and that is more than enough for me.

Hope you will have a wonderful week!

  4. I love that 2021 started for you with Bridgertons :D, I had such a great time with the show and I'm already excited about the second season. Btw I've yet to watch Tiger King and I still remember the hoopla around it.

    1. I haven't even heard of The Tiger King before I saw that meme. Will have to take a look. But I love Bridgerton! Perfect escape from our current reality. I'm also glad to hear that there will be second season. I've just started with the second book, so excited for that too.

  5. At least 2021 is starting off with a better male lead. I'm glad you enjoyed The Duke and I, and started the show. I loved Bridgerton and had to read the series but I'm almost done with the first book. I'm sure I'll need to binge it again. I hope you have a great week.

    1. Hi Mandy! I've watched the first 2 episodes and then decided to first read at least one of the books to see the similarities. The series is done very well and you don't miss much from the books. But I'm still glad that I've read the first one too.

      Have a wonderful week too!

  6. I binged Bridgerton in a night, though im not interested in reading the books . You might also enjoy watching Sanditon, I did.

Wishing you a great reading week

    1. Hi Shelleyrae! Thanks for letting me know about Sanditon, will sure have a look. The Duke and I have been on my TBR and Kindle since last year when someone recommended it to me, so when I started watching the series, I thought I should quickly read it. It didn't disappoint at all.

Hope you will have a good week!

  7. I haven't yet got around to Bridgerton - but it sounds like huge fun. You need to understand Elza that having a widely ranging taste in books is a sign of a flexible openness that is a major plus - not a sign of mental derangement! So glad you found such comfort in books and TV shows this week and I hope the coming one is peaceful and healthy:))

    1. Aaaah Sarah! Don't we just love having you around. Your wisdom is exactly what we need! Yes, my Mommy sure does have a very flexible mind and resilient personality. So I guess she needs to read as diverse as possible.

I hope you are well taking good care of yourself!

  8. All this talk about Bridgerton makes me want to read and/or watch this series. It's usually not my type of genre either.

I love the Clowder pic. Very cute.

Hope you have a great week!

    1. Hi there Yvonne! I'm quite sure you are going to enjoy Bridgerton. There's no kittens in there, but I'm sure they are just lurking the background somewhere.

I also liked that clowder picture, that's why I used it!

      Have a good week!

    1. Hi there Colletta! They definitely adapted to show, but rather added stuff than leaving things out from the books. That works for me. Just don't leave things out!!

You can watch it and I'm sure you are going to love it.

  10. I’ve not watched it yet, I will do once I have a day set aside because I know I’ll binge it in one go!

  11. I have neither read nor watched Bridgerton and can't quite figure out why. Maybe because I am reading all the CYBILS finalists in my category with a looming deadline? Probably. And, my daughter goes back to college in a few weeks so I'll have more reading and TV time then.

  12. I have only watched one episode of Bridgerton but it would definitely be an improvement over last year's Tiger King. I do need to give the books a try.

Well, the face of 2021 sure is an improvement.
The books are light and fluffy, but quite enjoyable. Think you might like it Carole!

  13. I'll have to say that Bridgerton is not my cup of tea so I'm intrigued that you enjoy it when it's not your usual genre. Love when that happens! I do think it's perfect for the season we are in - something about social distance and watching princes/princesses/dukes/duchesses does sound good.

    1. Hi Athira! You've nailed it perfectly! I think the biggest draw of the show is the marvelous escape from our current reality.
I've never really liked Regency novels, except for Jane Austen and Georgette Heyer when I was much younger. But this just works!
      Thanks for stopping by!

  14. Bridgerton is just what I needed to start off 2021! I've been wanting to read the books...but I'm not a huge romance fan but from time to time they serve! Glad you are doing well and enjoying your books and TV romances. Enjoy your week reading and watching all the fun things with Elza!

    1. Hi Heather! Romance is sooooo not my thing. But something about this series, both books and Netflix, just works. I think it might be the quirky humour that accompany it. And of course the lovely escape from reality!

  19. The Duke of Hastings is so easy on the eyes, isn't he? He was a nice way to start the new year. :-)

I personally think variety in reading is a good thing. It keeps ups from overdosing on one particular type of book. Not to mention different types of books may appeal to us at any given moment.

I have no scandalous gossip to share, unfortunately. Maybe next time. :-) Have a great week!

  21. I haven't watched Bridgerton YET but it's on my list. I love the books and The Viscount Who Loved Me I think was my favorite. Thanks for the mention and I'm so glad you enjoyed them! I did get a giggle when I saw you had to google what a Rake is. It's definitely a favorite term in historical romances so definitely best to know! Hope you're having a good week and getting snuggle time with Elza!

  22. I haven't started Bridgerton yet, but I do intend to as soon as we wrap up some other shows that have been lingering in our queue too long. My husband would watch a season of anything in just a few days but I like to take my time.

    Enjoy your week!

We love hearing from you and if you talk to me, I'll purr back as soon as possible. Sometimes I take a cat nap and it might take a couple of hours or days, but never fear - the cat always comes back.
