The Sunday Post #8

Sunday, August 23, 2020

Greetings! My humans are busy preparing for a Sunday lunch. BECAUSE we are officially on Stage 2 of Lock Down regulations and they are legally allowed to have friends over and even consume alcohol. I know the friends who are coming over, so I know I need to intercept this post. They come for lunch, they leave at bedtime. Worst part of all, their one Golden Retriever passed away earlier this week and Mommy thought it very generous to tell them to bring their remaining Golden Retriever with to play with our dogs. That means, I will have to go into hiding for the rest of today.

Anyway, how was your week? I can't even begin to describe our week to you! We went from the coldest weather recorded in 20 years, with snow and rain and wind that would have given my namesake a run for her money. To going out for a cold beer and taking the dogs to the beach in shorts and T-shirts.

You've gotta love Africa!

No new books were acquired and nothing much happened on the blog either. It was really, really, cold people. The only thing to do was snuggle up and watch TV.

Scratching the Blog Pole

Only two posts. Top Ten Tuesday was great this week! So many new adaptations to look forward to! And Weekend Book Friends was fun to write. Mommy's hands didn't freeze any more and she loved the Friday Face-off. Click on the images to go to the posts.

Reading

Like I've said, a bit too cold to do much more than snuggling in front of the TV. So we are still busy with the same books as last week. If by any chance, the Golden Retriever family does leave before the sun goes down, we might finish up with Something in the water. It really is an edge of your seat book!

Watching

We did watch more TV than normal and Mommy was so inspired with Tuesday's post on books that should be adapted for Netflix, she tried to only watch adaptations this week. A few are new. Like Chesapeake Shores and Vera. Chesapeake Shores are the type of books my mommy won't easily read, Vera is her go-to books. BUT she enjoys Chesapeake Shores as a series, but not Vera.

And that really is it for today. I should go and beautify myself now. You know, you need to look adorably cute and edible as you sit on the wall, just out of reach of the silly dogs' grasps.

I am just quickly adding my links to Debs over at ReaderBuzz for The Sunday Salon and to Kimberley over at Caffeinated Book Reviewer for The Sunday Post. I solemnly swear that I will visit you all a bit later.

Have a wonderful week! Stay safe and healthy! Oh and please pray that the silly dogs don't team up and try to eat me.

Lots of Love,

Elza

  1. Poor Elza with a strange dog to contend with! And poor you to have to cope with such extremes of weather... I hope the coming week is less bonkers weatherwise and you enjoy company with your friends.

  2. I hope you enjoy your lunch with friends. I so envy you that. A friend I've been missing for ages stopped by yesterday and we had a shout with each other from car to porch and it was oddly wonderful.

I've just gotten a notice that a couple of ebooks are ready for me, so I'm eagerly looking forward to that. Curbside service at my library has kept me going. Is The Rosie Result new? I'll have to check on that.

We've got not one, but two hurricanes out in the gulf, and school is set to start virtually on Monday. Could use all possible good thoughts and prayers here.

Your African weather is just as wacky, I think.

    Have a great week!

  5. Hi Sarah! We both survived. Thanks for the concern (smiley face). Apparently the weather is going to turn cold again and I have to say, the wind is a bit nippy...

    Thanks for the visit!

  6. Hi Deb! Have you read the first two Don Tillman books? The Rosie Result was published in 2019. So fairly new yes.

One of my best friends and her little girl is flying down the first week in September for a visit. Can't wait!!!

Holding thumps that the hurricanes will pass you by.

  7. Hi Gaya! Chesapeake Shores will have to wait now until my hubby is away again. But we both love Mr Mercedes!

  9. I hope you stay warm. It's quite hot and humid here, but I still like to go out and enjoy the fresh air. I'm mostly staying home so it's nice to have a back yard to enjoy. The only shows I recognize are Vera and Midsomer Murders. I've watched both of them. I love your white cat at the top of your blog and Elza is so cute. I have two cats (and one is almost a year old now).

    Have a good week!

  10. What’s South Africa’s version of cold? For us it’s anything under about 15C which I know the UK and most of the USA find hilarious.
I’m glad you are able to enjoy time with friends again

Wishing you a great reading week

  11. Here in the Midwest USA we are really hot! with temps in the high 80s to 90s all this week. So we'll be staying in and reading. TV is too exciting for us these days. We get the news now in snippets. Enjoy your cozy fire!

  12. The weathers gone mad! I read earlier about snow in Australia, now snow in South Africa. I love snow but I like it when I don’t need to go anywhere and can snuggle with a book and tea watching it from afar.

Hope you’ve had a lovely weekend, have a great week!

  13. Here in Quebec, we fluctuate a lot with temperature, all in the span of a day. But I think your version of cold is not our version here! I'm now curious about Something in the Water. Have a lovely week.

  14. I just finished the first book in the Bill Hodges series now I need to decide...to read on before watching the series on TV or not. I had to laugh about the weather report being SHITTY. Good one. It is lovely here today but it does start reminding me of Fall in the early mornings or late afternoons. My Sunday Post full of good news, and funny stuff

  15. I have many hobbies. I love to travel and read. But my favorite hobby is cooking. Let me tell you why! First, I'll tell you a little bit about why I started cooking. Secondly, I'll give you some information about what I like to cook. Third, I will say how I use the Blog ẩm thực for cooking.

When I started cooking, I was 10 years old. My mom wants me to be a chef. She has always believed that girls have to make different types of food, because one day they will get married. In my country, it is normal for girls not to cook. I feel lucky because I can cook many dishes. Now that I cook some of the dishes my children and husband love, I become happy and proud of my mother and myself. Foody

  17. Hi Shelley! Some parts of SA can get pretty cold with temperatures dropping below 0. But where I live, nope. 15 degrees is cold!! So yes!! Last week was terrible! We had maximum temperatures of about 8 degrees.

    The weather is crazy yes!

Hope you will have a good week and that the weather is kind to you.

  19. Hi Heather! We are not geared for snow, that is the big problem.... We live in a coastal town, so the snow was about an hour away. Lots of kids from school went to go see it and my husband also went. I had to work. One day, I want to have a White Christmas. But then I'll be geared for it!

    Have a good week!

  20. Hi Laura! No.... South African temperatures can't even almost be compared to Quebec. LOL!! But I still want to visit there one day!! Will make sure that I am all geared up.

    Have a good week!

  21. Hi Anne! It was shitty, not better word to describe it! You can watch the first season of Mr Mercedes man. It follows the first book. You won't get any spoilers.

    Enjoy your week!

  23. Hi Sherry! I hear you... We still take very special care, but unfortunately, not all my fellow citizens are doing the same.

Stay safe and at least you have to blog to keep you company!

Have a wonderful week and thanks for visiting.

  25. Interesting about the TV series versus books!

  26. I hope the visit went well and you weren't eaten Elza! It has been warm and wet here in the UK, so we have done quite a lot of TV watching too! Take care and God bless, from Bonnie the black cat and her hooman, Jessica. 😺

  27. Hi Jessica! It did! I have to chuckle now.... The golden retriever that came with, is named Jessica. But she is lovely - so no offence!

Thanks for your kind blessings Bonnie and your hooman. We can never have enough of those.

  28. Nice to have someone else in winter as well. I have not watched Chesepeake Shores but am aware of it. May give it a go one night by the fire!!

    Happy readings!

We love hearing from you and if you talk to me, I'll purr back as soon as possible. Sometimes I take a cat nap and it might take a couple of hours or days, but never fear - the cat always comes back.
